Every Fifteen Minutes.

This is a national drunk driving awareness program that takes place annually at either Lompoc or Cabrillo High Schools. It is put on by the California Highway Patrol and Office of Traffic Safety, and requires months of planning, coordination of all emergency services, and the cooperation of 32 amazing students AND their parents.”

Cabrillo High School is my school. This was an assembly we had last year, and we’ll have it once more next year. I’m working with my teachers so I’ll be able to be one of the mock crash victims, like Stephanie Miranda.

This is a really hard thing to watch. It’s very realistic. The people that are the mock crash victims cannot interact with anyone for 24 hours; Emmett Hill, the drunk driver, has to spend the night in jail. Also, the girl (who I do not know) who was carried away in a helicopter, had to stay in the hospital that night. She died.

I was sitting next to my best friend, Alexandra, during the assembly. I’m very close with her family. Her older sister, Adrianna, was one of the mock victims. After the assembly, we went to the “cemetery” that was out on the field and we looked at the grave marker that was for Adrianna and we both started crying.

They do something similar to this at my school. It’s hard to watch but everyone needs to see it.
